Chapter 8 - Reclaiming Home

Saturday morning arrived with the sound of power drills. A local locksmith was busy replacing every deadbolt and doorknob on the house, while a security technician installed cameras at the front and back entrances.
Ryan stood in the driveway, watching the technicians work. The physical barriers were necessary, but the emotional rebuilding was the true task at hand. He walked back inside to find Sarah in the kitchen. She was baking, a hobby she hadn't touched in months. The warm, comforting scent of cinnamon and apples filled the air, completely overwriting the memory of the cold, chaotic scene from just days ago.
Leo was sitting in his high chair, happily mashing a piece of dough with his small fists. Sarah looked up as Ryan entered, the bruise on her cheek fading to a dull yellow. She offered him a genuine, radiant smile.
"They finish the front door?" she asked.

"Almost done," Ryan replied, walking over and wrapping his arms around her waist from behind. He rested his chin on her shoulder, watching their son play.
The house finally felt like a sanctuary again. The shadows of Eleanor's intrusion had been swept away by their united front. They had faced the worst of the storm, confronted the demons of the past, and emerged stronger. As Ryan held his wife and listened to his son's joyful babbling, he knew with absolute certainty that no one would ever break their family apart.
