Chapter 11 - Building the Village

To counter the isolation that trauma often brings, Ryan and Sarah made a conscious effort to open their home to the people who truly loved them. If Eleanor’s intrusion had been a poison, community was the antidote.
They hosted a backyard barbecue on a warm Saturday in late spring. The yard was filled with the smell of grilled burgers and the sound of laughter. Sarah’s parents were there, doting on Leo as he ran through the sprinklers. Ryan’s closest friends from college sat around the patio table, sharing old stories and effortless jokes.

Standing by the grill, Ryan watched his wife. Sarah was laughing, her head thrown back, holding a glass of iced tea as she chatted with her sister. The bruise was a distant memory, replaced by a healthy, vibrant glow.
