Chapter 18 - A New Chapter

Life settled into a beautiful, predictable rhythm. The bakery was a resounding success, Ryan received a promotion at his logistics firm, and Leo was thriving in preschool. It felt as though they had finally reached the clearing at the end of a long, dark forest.

Then, on a rainy Sunday morning that felt eerily reminiscent of the past, Sarah walked into the living room holding a small plastic wand. She sat quietly next to Ryan on the couch, handing it to him without a word.

Ryan’s breath caught in his throat. He looked at Sarah, searching her eyes for any sign of the panic that had consumed her during her first pregnancy. Instead, he saw a quiet, steady resolve.

"Are you okay?" he asked softly, taking her hand.

"I am," she nodded, squeezing his fingers. "I'm not going to lie, I'm a little scared. I know what the darkness looks like now. But I also know we have a map to get out of it."

They spent the afternoon outlining a plan. They would contact Dr. Evans immediately. They would set up an appointment with her psychiatrist to manage her medication proactively. They were not the same frightened, isolated people they had been years ago. They had a fortress of support, boundaries of steel, and a profound, unwavering trust in one another.
