Chapter 9: The Morning After and the Boardroom Showdown

The mahogany boardroom of Sterling Global Enterprises was suffocatingly quiet when Julian pushed open the double doors at precisely eight-fifty-five in the morning. Twelve senior board members sat around the massive conference table, their expressions a volatile mix of anxiety, skepticism, and suppressed panic. Rumors of Beatrice’s arrest had already leaked to the financial press through anonymous police scanner tips, and stock futures were already dipping in pre-market trading. Arthur Vance sat quietly at the end of the table, his briefcase open and files neatly arranged, while an empty chair at the head of the table marked the conspicuous absence of Marcus Vance.

Julian walked to the head of the table, his posture immaculate in a sharp charcoal suit, a crisp white shirt, and a deep blue silk tie. He didn’t sit down immediately; instead, he placed his encrypted tablet on the mahogany surface and connected it to the massive wall-mounted display screen behind him. The room watched him with hawk-like intensity, waiting to see if the young billionaire would crack under the immense pressure of a dual personal and corporate crisis.

“Ladies and gentlemen,” Julian began, his voice ringing out with absolute clarity and calm authority. “I am aware that pre-market trading is reacting poorly to the rumors circulating about last night’s events at my estate. I am here to replace rumors with unvarnished fact.”

With a simple tap on his tablet, Julian initiated the playback of the high-definition smartwatch recording captured the previous evening. The screen flickered to life, projecting the crystal-clear footage of Beatrice pouring the amber-labeled vial into the champagne glass, followed seamlessly by the subsequent footage of Marcus Vance handing her the tainted vessel from the shadowy recesses of the mezzanine. The silence in the boardroom grew so absolute that the low hum of the air conditioning system sounded like a roaring engine.

Several board members gasped audibly, while others slumped back in their leather chairs, their faces turning pale as they comprehended the sheer scale of the betrayal and the miraculous escape Julian had just executed. The visual evidence was indisputable; it completely dismantled any narrative of corporate incompetence or hostile shareholder rebellion, framing the crisis entirely as a thwarted criminal conspiracy against the chief executive.

“As you can see,” Julian continued, his gaze sweeping slowly across the faces of the stunned executives, “both individuals are currently in police custody, facing multiple felony charges including attempted murder and corporate espionage. Furthermore, Arthur Vance and our internal security team have already frozen all accounts associated with the conspirators, securing our primary assets before any illicit liquidation could occur.”

An elderly board member, Richard Sterling—Julian’s uncle and a veteran of the company’s founding days—cleared his throat, his eyes shining with profound relief and newfound respect as he looked at his nephew. “Magnificent work, Julian. You’ve outmaneuvered a coup. But what about the market opening in thirty minutes? How do we stop the bleeding before the public panic takes hold?”
