Chapter 4: The Collapse of the Conspirator’s Facade

Beatrice’s lunged hands missed their target by mere millimeters, clawing only at the empty air as her expensive off-the-shoulder velvet gown restricted her frantic movement. She stumbled forward, catching herself against the edge of a mahogany cocktail table, sending a cascade of empty crystal flutes shattering onto the marble floor. The sharp sound echoed like gunshots through the cavernous ballroom, shattering whatever polite illusions the remaining guests were desperately trying to maintain. Heads turned away in disgust and fear; high-society acquaintances who had vied for Beatrice’s attention only an hour ago now melted backward into the crowd, eager to distance themselves from the unfolding scandal.

Julian turned his head sharply, his eyes locked onto Beatrice with a gaze so intensely cold it seemed to freeze the breath in her lungs. The initial tears of grief had dried, replaced by the hardening steel of a betrayed man who realized his entire world had been built on a foundation of calculated falsehoods. He did not shout, nor did he make any theatrical gestures; his restraint was far more terrifying than any outburst could ever have been. He simply held up his wrist, keeping the smartwatch screen illuminated for all nearby to witness the looping horror of the conspiracy.

“Marcus Vance,” Julian said, his voice dropping to a low, gravelly register that carried an immense, suppressed fury. “Your accomplice isn’t even in the room, Beatrice. But I am certain my security team can track his limousine before it reaches the county line.”

Beatrice straightened her posture with a pathetic vestige of aristocratic pride, though her lower lip trembled uncontrollably. She pulled her ruby necklace away from her throat as if it were suddenly choking her, her fingers digging into her pale skin. Realizing that denial was no longer a viable strategy, her expression curdled into a mask of bitter resentment and unveiled contempt. She looked at Julian not with remorse, but with the arrogant disdain of someone who truly believed she deserved the wealth and power she had tried to steal.

“You were always too soft, Julian,” Beatrice spat out, her voice dripping with venom as she glared at the man she had intended to kill. “Sitting in your ivory tower, playing the benevolent philanthropist while the real world is built on blood and acquisition. Marcus and I only intended to finish what your father started—taking back what should have been consolidated decades ago.”

Clara stepped back slightly, creating a safe buffer between herself and the escalating confrontation, though her eyes never left Beatrice. The sheer audacity of the confession left the surrounding guests gasping in disbelief. Julian didn't flinch at the insult; instead, a grim, humorless smile touched the corners of his mouth. He pressed a side button on his smartwatch, activating the secure broadcast mode that linked directly to the estate’s master security network and recorded every word of the damning public admission.
