CHAPTER 2: THE TWO FACES
Connor frowned.
For several long seconds, his brain refused to process what he was seeing.
The exact same face.
Dark eyes.
The same jawline.
The same expression.
He looked from Marco...
to Elena...
then back again.
One face carried a red handprint.
The other was completely untouched.
"What..."
Connor whispered.
Marco answered calmly.
"We're twins."
Silence filled the hallway.
Students stared in disbelief.
Some had heard rumors.
Few had ever seen the twins together.
Marco remained perfectly calm.
"The face you're looking at..."
He pointed toward himself.
"...is the same face you decided was acceptable to hit thirty seconds ago."
Connor swallowed.
His confidence disappeared.
For the first time all morning, he looked uncertain.
Marco didn't move.
Didn't threaten him.
Didn't raise his voice.
That somehow felt even more intimidating.
"You're going to apologize."
Connor blinked.
Then looked at Elena.
The red mark on her cheek suddenly seemed impossible to ignore.
"I'm..."
His voice cracked.
"...I'm sorry."
Elena said nothing.
She simply looked back at him.
Not angry.
Just disappointed.
Connor lowered his eyes.
Then quietly walked away.
The hallway slowly came back to life.
Students began whispering.
Phones appeared.
Someone had recorded everything.
And none of them realized the video would soon reach someone neither Connor nor the twins expected.
