Romance

Part 13

A month before the wedding, I flew out to London alone to help Sofia with the final details, including her wedding dress.

We spent a quiet afternoon at a boutique bridal shop hidden away in a quiet courtyard in Mayfair.

The designer brought out a selection of gowns, but Sofia's eyes instantly locked onto a simple, elegant silk dress with delicate lace detailing on the back.

When she stepped out of the dressing room wearing it, the breath caught in my throat.

She looked absolutely breathtaking, standing tall and confident in front of the three-way mirror.

The fragile girl who had wept in my arms after discovering Javier's betrayal was completely gone.

In her place was a beautiful, independent woman about to step into a bright new chapter of her life.

As I stepped up behind her to adjust the long, flowing veil, our eyes met in the reflection.

Tears welled up in both of our eyes, but they were tears of pure gratitude and relief.

"You look absolutely beautiful, my sweet girl," I whispered, squeezing her shoulders.

"Thank you for always being my anchor, Mom," Sofia said, her voice trembling slightly with emotion.

"Even when everything around us was falling apart, you never let me lose hope."

We stood there holding hands for a long moment, acknowledging the unspoken bond that had pulled us through the darkest storm.

That evening, we sat in her apartment, sipping tea and talking late into the night about her future.

The past had no place in our conversation anymore; the horizon ahead was far too bright.

The morning of the wedding arrived with a perfect, soft autumn mist that cleared into a brilliant, sunny day.

The Cotswolds barn was transformed into a fairytale, illuminated by hundreds of warm, amber fairy lights and decorated with white roses.

Alexander looked incredibly sharp in his tuxedo, though he was visibly nervous, pacing back and forth in the holding room.

When it was time for the ceremony to begin, he offered Sofia his arm, his chest swelling with fatherly pride.

I took my seat in the front row, looking back to see a small group of Sofia’s closest friends and Ethan's loving family.

As the music began to play, the doors opened, and Alexander walked Sofia down the aisle toward Ethan, who was standing at the altar with tears in his eyes.

The love and respect radiating between Sofia and Ethan in that moment was palpable, filling the entire room with warmth.

When Alexander handed her hand over to Ethan, he leaned in and gave Ethan a firm, supportive hug.

The ceremony was short, intimate, and deeply moving, focused entirely on promises of partnership, honesty, and mutual respect.

When the priest finally declared them husband and wife, a roar of applause broke out from the small crowd.

During the reception, Alexander stood up to give a speech, raising his champagne glass to the newlyweds.

His voice cracked slightly as he looked at Sofia and said, "True strength isn't about never falling; it's about having the courage to rebuild your life beautifully."

I looked across the table at him, wiping a stray tear from my cheek, deeply grateful that we had both lived to see this day.

The celebration lasted long into the night, filled with laughter, dancing, and a profound sense of peace that we had all earned.

After a brief, peaceful honeymoon exploring the quiet coastal towns of the Amalfi Coast, Sofia and Ethan returned to London with a renewed energy.

Their business, Aura Design, was growing faster than they had ever anticipated, gaining a reputation for creating spaces that felt like a sanctuary.

They were forced to move into a larger studio office and hire their first two full-time design assistants to handle the workload.

Sofia managed the client consultations and interior styling, while Ethan handled the architectural blueprints and structural planning.

They were a flawless team, balancing each other's strengths perfectly both in business and in their marriage.

Back home, Alexander and I continued our monthly dinners, which had evolved into a comfortable, deeply valued friendship.

We no longer talked about the legal battles or the pain of our past divorce; we talked about our current projects, our health, and our pride in Sofia.

One evening, Alexander brought a folder of architectural plans to our dinner, placing it on the table with an excited grin.

"My development company is launching a new luxury eco-friendly residential project downtown," he explained.

"I want to pitch a collaboration to Aura Design to handle the interior concepts for the entire complex."

I looked at him, surprised and deeply touched by his desire to support our daughter's professional growth on a global scale.

"That would be an incredible milestone for them, Alexander," I said, looking over the impressive blueprints.

"But you know Sofia—she won't accept it if she thinks it's a handout. You have to let her win the contract fairly."

Alexander laughed, nodding in agreement. "Oh, I know. I'm inviting three other firms to pitch, but I have no doubt she will blow them away."

A few weeks later, Sofia and Ethan flew back across the Atlantic to formally present their pitch for Alexander’s new eco-friendly development.

It was the first time Sofia had returned to her hometown since she had packed up her old condo and left for London.

Walking into the high-rise corporate headquarters where Alexander’s board of directors was waiting could have been intimidating.

But Sofia walked into the conference room with her head held high, carrying a leather portfolio and a confident smile.

I sat in the back of the room as a silent observer, watching my daughter command the attention of some of the city's top executives.

She presented a vision of sustainable, light-filled spaces that perfectly blended modern functionality with natural warmth.

Her presentation was thorough, brilliant, and clearly superior to any standard corporate design concept.

When she finished speaking, the room fell silent for a brief second before the board members broke out into enthusiastic nods.

Alexander sat at the head of the table, maintaining a professional demeanor, though his eyes were shining with immense pride.

An hour later, after a brief private deliberation, the board officially awarded the massive multi-million dollar contract to Aura Design.

As the executives shook her hand and left the room, Sofia turned to Ethan and threw her arms around his neck, laughing with pure joy.

She had come back to the city that had once brought her so much pain, and she had conquered it on her own terms.

She proved to herself, and to the world, that her success was entirely built on her own incredible talent and hard work.
