Panic Spreads Across Washington, D.C. - They Will Lose 19 U.S. House Seats After Supreme Court Ruling Could Give ...

WASHINGTON D.C. — Absolute panic is spreading through the halls of Washington, D.C., as the U.S. Supreme Court signals it is ready to drastically weaken Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act (VRA).

If the conservative majority issues the ruling experts are predicting, it could hand Republican-led legislatures the power to redraw up to 19 U.S. House seats to their advantage, virtually guaranteeing GOP control of the lower chamber for years to come.

The impending blockbuster decision centers around the re-arguments of Louisiana v. Callais.

Voting rights organizations aligned with the Democratic Party are sounding the alarm that the high court's willingness to mix race and partisanship in redistricting challenges is about to shift the balance of power in America.

THE BATTLE OVER LOUISIANA'S MAP

The current crisis stems from Louisiana’s 2022 congressional map. A federal district court previously found that the state's map likely violated Section 2 of the VRA by "packing" Black voters into a single district.

Statistically, Black voters represent approximately one-third (33%) of Louisiana's population, yet they were funneled into just one out of six congressional districts.

In 2024, state lawmakers established a remedial plan that created a second majority-Black district.

However, white voters launched a massive legal counter-attack, successfully arguing to a district judge that the new adjustments constituted an unconstitutional racial gerrymander.
